AED 382,000 from Beit Al Khair Restores Hope to the Family of a Cancer Patient

Continuing its mission to support those in need and care for the most vulnerable groups, Beit Al Khair Society extended generous assistance through its flagship healthcare initiative “Ilaaj” (Treatment) by allocating AED 382,066 to a low-income resident battling cancer — after the rising cost of treatment overwhelmed him and cast a heavy shadow over his small family.

The beneficiary, a modest employee working in the private sector with a limited salary, has been living under harsh financial conditions as the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes a stay-at-home wife and two children in different stages of education. His life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with advanced oral pharyngeal cancer, forcing him to abandon both work and family responsibilities as he became tied to long, painful treatment sessions.

The crisis escalated when he was no longer able to afford the costly chemotherapy sessions provided by Tawam Hospital, known to be among the most expensive treatments — far beyond the reach of those with limited income. As financial pressures mounted, the family was forced to make the heartbreaking decision of pulling both children out of school temporarily to support their father emotionally through his treatment journey — a painful sacrifice filled with sorrow and uncertainty.

In light of this compounded hardship, the family submitted an urgent request to Beit Al Khair through the “Ilaaj” program, which specializes in assisting patients who cannot bear the financial burden of medical care, especially in critical and chronic cases. After a thorough review of the medical and social file, the Society swiftly approved emergency support of AED 382,066 to cover a substantial portion of the treatment plan — ensuring the continuation of chemotherapy sessions as prescribed by doctors.

This support is part of a broader series of initiatives by Beit Al Khair in the healthcare sector, where the Society spends more than AED 20 million annually on treating patients in need — citizens and residents alike — as part of its unwavering humanitarian mission and social responsibility.

Through the “Ilaaj” program, in addition to “Fazaa” and emergency assistance initiatives, the Society has become a beacon of hope for thousands facing both illness and financial hardship — reaffirming once again that compassion and solidarity are core values of the Emirati society.
